Description

Description

This Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) is focused on the Livestock, Environment, Agriculture and Forest Sectors (DIH-LEAF). It brings together different actors connected with the production sector and from different technology initiatives. Universities, technological centres, companies, producer associations, non-profit associations, all of them take part in DIH-LEAF with the objective to face the wager of digitalisation and technological innovation in this broad productive sector.

DIH-LEAF is an association (non-profit) established as an independent and unique digitalisation ecosystem with the final objective to digitalise these entities improving their efficiency, competitiveness and sustainability throughout the application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). This way, it also contributes to the sustainable development of both rural and urban areas.

DIH-LEAF has a national scope (Spain) but is mainly for companies and institutions located in Castilla y León.

A variety of activities are carried out by DIH-LEAF in order to support local SMEs with their digital transformation such as training, promotion, dissemination, workshops, trading markets, demonstrations, audits, digitalization programmes, precision mapping, deployment of personalized solutions, awareness-raising actions, etc.

Link to national or regional initiatives for digitising industry

Obviously, this initiative is tightly aligned to the EU Digital Europe and Farm to Fork Strategies. Additionally, it is aligned with the new reality in the Spanish agricultural field, tightly coupled with the national strategy: “Estrategia de Digitalización del Sector Agroalimentario y Forestal y del Medio Rural” (Strategy for the Digitalization of the Agro-food, Forestry an Rural areas Sector) from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Furthermore, it is also coupled with the "Estrategia de Fomento del Desarrollo Tecnológico y Digitalización" by the Junta de Castilla y León (Castilla y León regional government).

As DIH-LEAF was founded some months ago, it has not yet a wide experience in international projects. It has been recently selected to participate in the H2020 SmartAgriHubs project, through the Expand open call.

The objective will be the representation of the applicant entities in these events in order to improve their visibility and also increase their chances of participation in competitive proposals.

Training in Digital Technologies for the Primary Sector

The introduction of New Technologies and the Internet of Things in many areas of our society is an unstoppable reality, especially in the field of industry and agriculture dedicated to the production of higher added value. Adaptation to this new reality is also an unstoppable fact addressed from multiple productive sectors, especially those related to agricultural machinery, the management of agricultural inputs and the monitoring of crop development. Although technological advances are unquestionable, their penetration in the sector, mainly in traditional agriculture and livestock farming, is being hindered by the lack of training of its main actors and the dispersion of the technological solutions presented.

DIH-LEAF offers training and capacity building services for managers and staff of different organisations, at a basic, intermediate and advanced level. These services include specific training for the safe and efficient operation of agricultural machinery equipped with the latest technologies (GPS-based autoguidance systems, ISOBUS, variable rate fertiliser systems, data collection of harvest quantity and quality, spectral images obtained by fixed or mobile systems, etc.).

Programmes are also developed for the technical and transversal training of unemployed people who can develop emerging professions in the primary sector.

Funding oportunities identification

The service consists of tracking funding opportunities in the regional, national and European scenario, aligning the opportunities with the lines of research and strategic technological developments of the requesting entities. To this end, the service consists of the evaluation of the different funding programmes based on the analysis of the calls for proposals, participation in specific events, establishment of the possibilities of success and evaluation of consortiums. On the other hand, within this service, an evaluation of the technologies of the applicant companies will be carried out, as well as the different lines of research related to digitisation that are the object of funding.
