Link to national or regional initiatives for digitising industry
SpectroNet has the mission to develop the so called field of future „Photonic Measurement Engineering for Quality Assurance“. Aim of the mission is to develop and apply photonic sensors and systems for quality assurance of products and services in industry, biology, medicine and daily life.
The partners and friends of the SpectroNet DIH are participating in the digitization of industry by the development and application of the so called technical eyes for machines and systems.
On the one hand SpectroNet actively connects SMEs for project specific research and development projects. SMEs benefit especially from digital knowledge transfer in the Hub. On the other hand, SpectroNet and its coaches actively provide services for the development of IT-infrastructure to support SMEs in the digitalization process.
The SpectroNet DIH is directly linked with regional policy initiatives for the digitization of industry. SpectroNet is integrated in the regional innovation strategy RIS3 of Thuringia, Germany. SpectroNet actively works in the field of innovation „Industrial Production and Systems“ and is part of the organization of the Forum „Wirtschaft 4.0/Economy 4.0“.

Service Examples
3-Dimensional Multispectral Imaging
Example 3: 3 Dimensional Multispectral Imaging in Biology and Biomedicine
Current research projects of selected partners from the SpectroNet DIH are focusing on the combination of 3D Imaging with Multi-/Hyperspectral Imaging (gunther.notni@iof.fraunhofer.de). The closed value creation cycle from illumination, optics, sensors and interfaces up to computers and software will be optimized for digitally transformed solutions in biology and biomedicine. The SpectroNet DIH provide an organizational platform to its partners to handle complex research projects through digital collaboration services.
AMI - Advanced Multimodal Imaging
Example 1: Support of the AMI – Advanced Multimodal Imaging Alliance
The AMI alliance develops multimodal imaging methods that combine image processing technologies from different spectral ranges from UV to LWIR as well as real-time 3D images, thus enabling an extended object and scene description, for industrial growth fields relevant in Southern Thuringia. Flexible imaging methods are key technologies in the future markets of medicine, production, automotive, agriculture, forestry and recycling management. The common economic goal of the RUBIN alliance AMI is the establishment of a complete value chain of multimodal imaging and the networking with suppliers and customers with a focus on the application fields relevant in Thuringia and Saxony. The focus is on multimodal imaging in process chains for sustainable agriculture and forestry, food industry and recycling of valuable materials for closed material cycles. However, areas beyond this, such as quality assurance processes and human-robot interaction, will also be considered. The vision of the RUBIN alliance AMI is to develop innovative products and services and to open up new regional value chains using multimodal imaging technologies. The SpectroNet DIH, as a digital solution provider for global collaboration in hyperspectral imaging, supports the AMI Alliance and provides an organizational platform to the partners to handle complex research projects through digital collaboration services.

Example 2: Support of the Wood-21-regional joint project
The "Holz-21-regio" alliance has taken up the challenge of sustainably developing the Rennsteig-Schwarzatal region (Thuringia/Germany) into a promising business location that is also a good place to live. They are striving for a structural change that focuses on the main sustainable treasure - the forest - as a resource pool and innovation engine. The use of the climate-neutral building material wood in products that are as durable as possible is indispensable for achieving climate protection goals, especially CO² savings and long-term bonding. Thuringia is to become an exemplary region for the local sustainable use of wood as a raw material and its refinement for modern timber construction as well as innovative wood-based materials and materials based on wood ingredients. With the strong Thuringian industries of forestry and timber, special mechanical engineering and digitalization & sensor technology a long-term structural change is being strived for. In the area of digitalization and sensor technology, SpectroNet will take on a major task and organize an initial starter project to evaluate basic sensor technologies and develop system requirements for the innovation areas of Holz-21-regio. R&D projects with companies from the Thuringian Forest region, but also supra-regionally, will be supported by fundings of the government. SpectroNet holds a key position in the networking of the individual players, in the development of the fundamental scientific findings in the field of forestry/sensor technology and in the provision of the infrastructure for communication and event presentation.
